Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
There comes a point when the outside world has to learn how to survive without me for a few hours. I’ve done my part. I’ve answered people, looked productive, probably pretended to listen to something I barely cared about. That should be enough. Now I want the door closed, the phone dropped somewhere far away, and absolutely nobody asking what the plan is. It’s fucking Sunday!
And apparently, Terra Renae gets it. Slightly Faded is her latest release, and it puts pretty much that whole mood into a song. A lazy-like R&B crust rolled into a slightly dark-pop pan, with work done, the social battery going flat, and whatever plans you had kinda going to hell anyway.
Alongside producer Midi Jones and Grammy-nominated songwriter Lauren Christy, Slightly Faded mixes pop and R&B with a hazy backdrop, while Terra keeps things close, relaxed and personal. The whole thing revolves around that glorious moment when social enthusiasm runs out of petrol. Terra has worked all week, played the boss, made the money and earned the right to disappear for a while. Then comes the confession: “I wanna stay home, get slightly faded.”
Fair enough. I’ve heard worse life strategies. Later, “Stop bothering me” comes around again and again, just in case anyone missed the message the first time. The message hardly needs subtitles. Sometimes freedom means your own space, your own music and nobody asking where you are.
Getting here has been quite a ride for Terra. Raised in Louisville by her Filipino mother after losing her father young, Terra Renae went for music first, until vocal strain got in the way during an important audition and sent things in a completely different direction.
So, she stepped away for a while, moved into modelling, made a successful career out of it, and somehow found the time to earn a doctoral degree too. Then, here we go again – music came back and pretty much smashed the door down.
And then Los Angeles happened. Just after her wedding in 2022, Terra met Macy Gray, and yeah… things changed pretty quickly from there. Macy liked what she heard, took Terra Renae under her wing, became her executive producer and started connecting her with some pretty serious writers and producers. That relationship eventually led to Terra supporting Macy Gray across her first European and U.S. tours, performing in more than twenty cities.
Meanwhile, her debut album All I Have crossed one million streams, while Live Nation’s Ones to Watch and Music Connection Magazine put her on their radar, with the latter naming her among its 2024 Hot 100 Unsigned Artists.
After Wild Again, Terra Renae slows things down with Slightly Faded. This time she’s relaxed, a little cheeky, and quite happy to let everybody else go out without her. Her sophomore album arrives later this year, so this feels like a useful little warning about where Terra Renae may wander next.
Until then, close the curtains, abandon your shoes and find Terra on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Spotify. Just maybe avoid calling her. She appears to have made her position on that fairly clear.
