Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
Can rockets bring hope? Absolutely. Especially when two French guys build one, dress like astronauts and head for the stars with 19 tracks of music in their luggage. There’s something wonderfully ridiculous about aiming for space with a homemade rocket and a big dose of optimism. And somehow, you get the feeling these two might actually pull it off.
On 16 October, Parisian duo Oden & Fatzo released their debut album, Somehow It Flies, through Defected Records. A dynamic musical adventure, fuelled by curiosity, friendship and that French habit of having fun with practically everything.
Oden & Fatzo have spent the last ten years having fun with house, disco, French touch and electronic music, picking up some pretty impressive achievements along the way.
Their platinum-selling breakthrough, Lauren, started turning heads. Then came Lady Love with Camden Cox, which passed 120 million streams, followed by Tell Me What You Want with Poppy Baskcomb, now boasting 165 million.
Meanwhile, they’ve taken their infectious live performances everywhere. From Ibiza’s Ushuaïa, Pacha and Chinois to Defected festivals in Croatia and Malta. And here’s my favourite part. Apparently, everyone advised them against making an album. Their response? Make one with 19 tracks. Take that!
Somehow It Flies brings quite a crew aboard. THEOS, Saint Raymond, Raphael Schweitzer, Yasmin Jane, Camden Cox, MEZERG. Plenty of others join the adventure. Take Our Time introduced the album ahead of its release, while Someone Like You opens the record.
And there’s a familiar name aboard, too. Noa Mileé, who we’ve previously featured here on Groover City, joins the duo on You Don’t Want To Think About It. At just 2 minutes and 22 seconds, it’s a short little adventure, but one that’s getting attention, with over 880,000 Spotify streams already.
I love how this whole rocket business fits their story. Two guys making music their own way in the Paris underground, and now they’re travelling the world playing it. Not bad for a couple of aspiring astronauts!
Next up, Amsterdam, London, Leeds, and then a trip across the US. These two astronauts have a busy few months ahead. Somehow It Flies is out now. Give it a spin, enjoy the journey, and perhaps keep one eye on the sky.
