Tossing Coins, Catching Fire

I’ve known Mz for a while now. Wrote about him back when he dropped Date Night and BMTboth carried weight, both drew eyes. He’s the kind of artist who grows in real time, right in front of you, just like that. And now Wishing Wells lands on my desk like a coin hitting water, ripples spreading further than expected.

The track kicks off with that image – “I throw a coin into a wishing well and make a wish that maybe I might get the chance”. I don’t know about you, but I hear someone who knows luck is scarce and work is plenty. That eerie, atmospheric beat leaves space for the lines to cut through, raw and human.

Mz Wishing Wells

This record takes the risk instead of playing safe. There’s a reason playlists like Rap UK, Alternative Hip-Hop, and UK Rap 2025 are primed for it. It hits the balance between sharp bars and melodic hooks, sweetening the deal and making it replayable, addictive.

Stairs, Lifts, and the Risk We Take

I caught myself nodding when he rapped: “They say success is up the stairs, but I prefer to take the lift. A lazy m.f. or maybe I’m too old for this.” It’s self-aware, tongue-in-cheek, and also brutally honest. I’ve felt that too – sometimes you want the shortcut, even when you know the grind is where the real blood is spilled.

Mz Wishing Wells

That’s what makes Wishing Wells unique. It’s ambition wrapped in sarcasm, persistence shaded with doubt. Mz serves up the raw truths of being 26, carrying ambition and the weight of expectation in the same line. “They hate to see me shining into a diamond”- it’s raw drive, a little jagged, still carrying light.

There’s a tension here that works, with his voice sitting between youthful bravery and lived-in fatigue. The kind you only get from dragging your own feet through both mud and spotlight. And it’s not easy, man. That’s why lines like “spend my days trying make my name, trying break this chain” feel lived, not just imagined.

Mz – Wishing Wells: A Journey Already in Motion

Mz has momentum. Over 40k streams on his last two singles, press nods rolling in, and an audience that keeps swelling. The man’s got a knack for rolling out campaigns too – pre-save links, teaser clips, the works. Every release feels like an event in itself.

The comparisons to Skepta, Dave, or Loyle Carner get tossed around, but what I hear is someone carving a space that’s his own. Blending grime grit with jazz beats, dropping sharp lines and keeping the message clear. He’s got the brains and the rhythm, and it’s right there in the music.

Mz Wishing Well

I’ve got people waiting for me too, deadlines piling up, but writing about Mz reminds me why I do this. Because when a rapper takes the piss, ruffles feathers, and still dares to wish into the well, that’s the kind of story I want to pass on.

Wishing Wells is no small entry – it’s a bookmark in the story of an artist who takes the stairs and builds his own lift, rhyme after rhyme. Keep up with Mz on Instagram, TikTok, Spotify, YouTube and X – the journey’s unfolding in real time.
