Ooberfuse Songs Of Courage

If you’re brave enough to look up and chase your faith, you probably ask yourself what waits beyond destiny. I think the answer depends on belief, and how much reality you can handle before your regular breakfast. With Songs Of Courage, London alternative-pop duo Ooberfuse and Cameroonian artist Abdel Tchatchet turn that question into three songs shaped by grief, migration, friendship, and the resilience that binds people together.

Released today, 20 June 2026, Songs Of Courage arrives hand in hand with World Refugee Day and Refugee Week 2026. Ooberfuse and Abdel Tchatchet knew exactly when they wanted these stories to be heard. They also chose Dover, Kent for the recordings – the place where many refugees first step onto British soil. I often wonder how much of life comes from choice and how much arrives already written somewhere beyond our reach. Dover feels like one of those places where both roads meet.

Together: Why People Need People

Every now and then I read a story that reminds me how comfortable most of my problems are. Then I think about people crossing borders with hope tucked between uncertainty and fear. I think about people finding the strength to continue after losing someone they dearly loved. Then people keeping old songs alive because memory is sometimes the last bridge back home. Songs Of Courage gives each of those stories a voice.

Together opens the EP with a message of solidarity and human connection. I found myself thinking how strange the modern world can be. We have thousands of ways to communicate, but the genuine understanding often feels like the rarest currency in our pockets.

Courage and The Love We Have

Courage takes a different road. Cherrie Anderson shaped the song after losing her mother, and that experience runs through every part of it. The lyrics reflect grief, faith, and the strength people somehow find when the world suddenly feels different from the one they knew before.

To be honest, listening to it I found myself thinking about my own parents. If you’re lucky enough to still have yours around, give them an extra hug. Tell them you love them. One day, you’ll wish you could do it again.

Bulu Bo Winde Tenge Begins with a Spark

Closing the EP, Bulu Bo Winde Tenge turns toward home. Hal St John started with an African-rooted guitar phrase and kept it looping. The idea gradually grew into the chorus and gave Abdel Tchatchet the space to introduce the traditional Cameroonian song that inspired the track. I love stories like that. They remind us that songs – like everything else – often begin with a small spark, a chance moment, and a bit of patience.

Cherrie Anderson learned the Cameroonian lyrics and added backing vocals alongside Abdel‘s lead performance, helping transform a traditional melody into a heartfelt celebration of culture, memory, and identity.

The Road Behind Ooberfuse

By now, Ooberfuse have collected enough stories to fill a decent-sized suitcase. Their music has travelled through Europe, Asia, North America, South America, the Middle East, and beyond, reaching audiences everywhere from major venues to local communities. A collaboration with Snoop Dogg. Public support from Pope Francis. Performances from London to Rio, from major theatres to communities few artists ever reach.

Support has arrived from BBC Radio, BBC Introducing, Music Week, DJ Mag, Rolling Stone India, and plenty of corners of the music world that rarely agree on anything. Their journey has also included stages such as the London Palladium, the O2, Leicester Square Theatre, and tours alongside artists including Heather Small, Pixie Lott, The Wanted, and The Overtones.

The more years I collect behind me, the less convinced I become that anybody truly knows what comes next. Life has a habit of changing the script halfway through the film. People leave, people arrive, roads appear where there were none before. Somehow, through all that uncertainty, we keep moving, loving, hoping, and starting over. That’s the feeling I have now from Songs Of Courage.

The EP left me with plenty to think about. Perhaps it will do the same for you. Follow Ooberfuse on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok – consider it a small detour worth taking.
