Alex Parker: From Bucharest Guitars to Los Angeles Beats

Alex Parker has one of those careers where you start reading the credits and go, “hang on… he did that too?” Festivals, charts, pop records, electronic music, TV work – the man gets around.

The Romanian-born producer, songwriter, composer and DJ now works between Los Angeles and Bucharest. More than 15 years in music, over one billion lifetime streams, platinum and gold records across Central and Eastern Europe, and credits stretching through pop, EDM, R&B, house and plenty in between.

However, when I asked the very sophisticated journalistic question “Who is Alex Parker?”, I got something considerably better than a press release. “A music nerd, a car guy, a fashion victim, and someone with a slightly questionable sense of humor. Beyond the bio: I’m the guy who’ll spend four hours arguing about a bassline and then leave the studio to go look at engines.” Good. I already trust him.

Bucharest teaches you to fix the cable

Alex’s story starts back in Bucharest, with a piano. Then came the louder stuff – producing for some of Romania’s biggest pop artists, making his own records and, eventually, taking his music well beyond Romania. That catalogue includes tracks such as Back To Her, with more than 10 million Spotify streams, Undress Your Soul and Alibi, alongside production and writing work for artists including INNA, Alexandra Stan, Antonia, Holy Molly, Olivia Addams and many others.

So I wanted to know what actually travelled with him when Bucharest eventually became Los Angeles: “The do-it-all mentality,” he told me. “In Romania you learn to be the producer, the engineer, the manager, the guy who fixes the cable.” Yep, I know that one. Producer, engineer, manager… and cable guy when things go sideways.

Apparently, that “fine, I’ll do it myself” mentality never really left. The ethno-Balkanic influences are still somewhere in his music too, whether people actually notice them or not. And somewhere along the way, he swapped the guitars for synthesizers.

Before all the electronic stuff, Alex was into distorted guitars and live bands. Then Skrillex happened. “Honestly, that simple. The first time I heard that stuff I realized a synth could hit harder than any amp I’d ever stood in front of. Same energy I was chasing with guitars, just a completely different weapon.”

That “different weapon” eventually took him from Romanian studios to huge electronic stages, including UNTOLD and NEVERSEA, with multiple main-stage appearances along the way.

Billion streams, Paramount+ and studio chaos

And then you look at what he’s actually done… yeah, there’s quite a list. His work has crossed the billion-stream mark, while songs including Olivia Addams’ Stranger and Never Say Never, Holy Molly’s Shot a Friend and LIZOT x Holy Molly’s Ménage à Trois collected major certifications and millions of plays.

There’s also a lovely bit of producer madness behind Ménage à Trois: Alex produced it during his first trip to Los Angeles – mid-flight. Of course he did.

More recently, his music entered another world entirely. Paramount+ used Alex’s original music throughout Made For March, its 2026 four-part documentary series following the Kansas Jayhawks and Michigan Wolverines through the NCAA season. He co-produced that work with Daniel Tannenbaum, aka Bekon, and Sergiu Gherman.

Meanwhile, his own recent releases through MUZE Records include Heartbreak and Sun In Your Eyes featuring Feenom and Brooke Williams. Heartbreak reached the radio Top 10, while Alex Parker has also taken on a wider industry role as Head of U.S. Market & Creative Partner at MUZE Records, helping drive its international expansion and A&R strategy.

So, what actually happens when Alex gets into the studio? Well… apparently it depends on the day. Or maybe the planets decide.

“All of them, depending on how the planets are aligned,” Alex said when I asked what comes first in the studio. “Some days I hear the whole record before I touch anything. Other days I’m just messing with a plugin for two hours until something accidentally sounds good.” That sounds considerably closer to music production as I recognise it.

And what do fans rarely see? “The mental breakdowns. Every record has at least one.” Eight words. Entire producer community represented.

Getting closer to the sound

After all that, I was curious about what Alex Parker wants to do next. And I really liked his answer. “My sound is getting closer to what I’ve always imagined my music would sound like. That’s taken years. It feels good to finally be arriving there.”

I like that. Funny thing with music – it can take years before you finally make what you’ve been hearing in your head all along. And his advice for new producers? Pretty simple: “Be original. Don’t chase trends – by the time you catch one it’s already gone. Make music for your soul, and the rest sorts itself out.”

And because I gave Alex the option to ask himself one question that interviewers rarely ask, he chose the truly urgent issue: “What’s your favorite music plugin?” His answer: The French Houser. “Obviously. I may be slightly biased.” Slightly.
