Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
We all love a crowded dancefloor, a few friends nearby and the sticky confidence that tonight will become an unforgettable memory. The energy, the lights, the people – everything here feels important for several sweaty hours.
Speaking of memories, I still remember living in Rome during the late ’90s and chasing a deep personal dream: the Italian discoteca. Those places had their own language, folks. They also came with an amazing dress code and a small collection of beautiful lunatics. Years later, that world has opened its doors again through Mr Dendo and La Discoteca.
Mr Dendo had a completely different album in mind when La Discoteca suddenly changed the plan. He was working on a darker, techno-inspired album when he created a looping female vocal repeating two words: “la Discoteca.”
Deleting it would have taken one click. Thankfully, curiosity won. He built the entire track around that hypnotic phrase, wrapping a mad bass groove in modern EDM production while keeping its Italian dance blood fully intact.
I enjoy accidents like this. Producers spend hours searching for grand concepts, yet sometimes two stray words save the day and take over the whole project. The vocal acts just like a flashing club sign: simple, immediate and quite hard to forget.
Rome-based Davide Rodia began his journey with dance music at eight years old, and later emerged as Mr Dendo in 2004. His catalogue stretches across singles and albums including Dendostyle, Memories, Disco Misto, Secrets and Eternum (Part II).
Eventually, his path crossed with Gigi D’Agostino. That connection helped shape Mr Dendo‘s approach to Lento Violento. Then, little by little, he started bending it his own way until it became what he now calls Dendo Style.
Fans of Gigi D’Agostino, Eiffel 65 and Molella will know exactly what I’m talking about. However, Mr Dendo leaves his own fingerprint all over it: drama added to the melodies, heavy bass and a clear affection for the era that raised him.
Released on 3 July, La Discoteca celebrates the club as a place of freedom, connection and beautiful madness. Meanwhile, its tiny vocal hook fits perfectly into short videos, ironic clips and social feeds, giving a younger generation its own entrance into that mood.
For me, and for others like me who still remember the Italian discoteca, the track brings back some generous slices of nostalgia. From those hot nights on the dancefloor to the early mornings when we were completely exhausted, but somehow still ready for the colazione. For everyone else, the doors are now open.
Follow Mr Dendo’s music, videos and next adventures here. Just keep this in mind: once La Discoteca lets you inside, finding the exit becomes your own problem.
