Ana April Revolution

If you think of a revolution, you probably see some packed streets, waving flags and somebody shouting through a megaphone. I cannot blame you. That’s usually the first image that comes to mind. Behind the word, however, hides a much wider landscape, and I always enjoy it when artists choose an unexpected path.

Ana April returns with Revolution, and instead of marching through the streets, the whole journey heads straight into the mind.

Chronologically, the single arrives after Imprints, Breaking Voice, and Good Reason. Looking at those titles in sequence, I imagine Ana April building her own narrative. First come the marks we leave behind, then a voice that finally breaks through, followed by a reason to move forward. By the time Revolution appears, the title feels like the natural next chapter rather than a random destination.

Tea, Stains And Saturn

The story follows a solitary figure “somewhere out in the suburbs,” surrounded by fairy tales, fables, coffee stains, books, and old wise men hanging around his mental ceiling. He puts the kettle on, watches the vapour rise, and suddenly, “in his mind,” the big machinery begins.

Ana April Revolution

Revolution comes as an indie/alt-pop track. But not like the vast majority. Its chords, the 7/4 chorus, and an experimental arrangement gently bend the expected route into a strange little staircase to climb. That’s a meticulous endeavour, and I just love it. It keeps smiling while taking those little detours, and I happily followed each one.

Ana April And The Art Behind The Sound

Switzerland-based Ana April brings a full visual presence into her music. As a scenographer, she has designed stage sets and exhibition spaces for renowned clients. And yes, that sense of space clearly feeds her songs. Revolution marks her sixth single, while her voice reflects more than three decades of experience through concerts, choirs, and different musical formations.

Her background also has a story that music lovers will appreciate. Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Kate Bush, Supertramp, Pink Floyd and others shaped her songwriting universe. Her parents also left her a pretty colourful story from San Francisco’s hippie era. Somehow, it all makes perfect sense after hearing her music.

Microscopes, Kites And Fireworks

The lyrics take us from tiny details and huge ideas, and I happily followed every step. A microscope studies stains in particular, books fly from shelves like the kites do. Somewhere along the way, the song lifted me into a ramified cosmic pattern across Saturn’s rings. So beautiful. The real destination? Back to the cradle, where every revolution begins.
