Reetoxa Unveils Thrift Shop Dress: A Rock Spark from Soliloquy

There are two clear periods in my life when it comes to walking up to a beautiful woman. The first one lasted until around thirty, when my mouth would dry up, my brain would resign on the spot, and my legs would suddenly find urgent business somewhere else. Then came the second phase: older, louder, and fully equipped with the confidence of a man who has already embarrassed himself enough times to survive another round.

So when I read the story behind Thrift Shop Dress by Reetoxa, I get the nerve of it straight away. One look across the street, one cool girl, one brain running wild before the feet even crossed the road. That sort of thing has started wars, poems, and some very dodgy haircuts.

Reetoxa finds the spark and lights the fuse

Jason McKee, the man behind Reetoxa, writes from experience. One look, one idea, done. That matters, because Thrift Shop Dress arrives with the slap of a real moment. He saw a beautiful girl in Brunswick while heading to band rehearsal, the imagination took the wheel, and the gloves went on and the song got hunted down. It kicks off like it’s been going for a while.

This release opens the door to Soliloquy, Reetoxa’s new 26-track album, and I’ll say this plainly: picking a single from a record that large could send a lesser artist into the bushes with a flashlight and a panic attack. But this one came forward for a reason. It has movement, attitude, all the ingredients for a proper rock-about round.

Thrift Shop Dress – where it all starts

The title says enough. You don’t need a breakdown to get where it’s going. There’s charm in it, yes, though charm alone never saves a rock song. Reetoxa adds energy, timing, and that flash of obsession we all know too well.

I also like the way Reetoxa keeps one boot in storytelling and the other in real life. That balance gives the song a human shape. You get a bloke clocking a moment, feeling the hit, and turning it into something loud for the rest of us.

Reetoxa and the long road to Soliloquy

There’s history behind Reetoxa project, and it gives the new material extra weight. McKee built Reetoxa from years of life, loss, reflection, and the decision to keep writing. That journey already gave us Pines Salad, we wrote about a few songs from it. Jason McKee took the Reetoxa name from his AA days and got to work shaping the sound. Pulling from Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and whatever else made sense at the time.

Then he linked up with ARIA-nominated producer Simon Moro, Grammy-nominated engineer Joe Carra, and a proper crew: Pete Marin on drums, James Ryan on guitar, Kit Riley on bass, Phil Turcio on piano. That’s where things started to lock in.
