When it’s banging, it’s banging. I mean… a little bit of high-octane energy never hurt anyone, provided you don’t try to explain it with a spreadsheet. I lasted about thirty seconds before reaching for the volume. After that, the neighbours became part of the listening session whether they wanted to or not. That’s exactly where I found myself with Tai Woffinden and David Forbes and their latest collaboration, Mirror Mirror.

From Speedway to Mainstage

Tai Woffinden spent years collecting Speedway World Championship titles before swapping speedway for the studio. Standing still clearly never suited him. Since stepping into electronic music in 2023, he has carried that same fearless mentality into the studio, working alongside names including Oliver Heldens, Gabry Ponte, CERES and Mauro Picotto, while earning releases through Armada Music and support from Armin van Buuren. August brings another huge moment as he joins Hardwell at Sunrise Festival in Poland.

Meanwhile, David Forbes keeps adding chapters to a career stretching well beyond two decades. The Glasgow producer continues to shape trance, techno and hardcore with confidence. More than twenty years later, David Forbes still approaches the studio with the same attitude.  Collaborations with Ben Gold and John Askew tell part of the story. The records tell the rest.

Mirror Mirror Looks Straight at the Dancefloor

Together they hit on Hannah Laing‘s DOOF label with impressive force. Mirror Mirror wastes exactly zero seconds before the kick drum takes control, while those soaring trance melodies wrap themselves around the memorable vocal hook: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the baddest of them all?” Good luck getting that vocal out of your head afterwards. Usually that’s either a very good sign or the coffee has gone spectacularly wrong.

The production balances raw energy with precision. Tai Woffinden injects festival-sized ambition, David Forbes keeps the whole thing locked in, and Hannah Laing has already championed the record throughout her recent DJ sets. David Forbes will also bring Mirror Mirror to life during doof in the Park 2026, where thousands of ravers will experience exactly the kind of atmosphere this record seems determined to create.

Now do yourself a favour. Follow Tai Woffinden and David Forbes. Then press play. If the neighbours start asking questions, simply tell them you were conducting important dance music research.
