Harriet Perring Mirror Talk

Mirror Talk Meets You at Close Distance

For years, I’ve been blessed doing this job and finding such a pleiade of authentic, goose-bumping songs – especially when a song stops being a performance and starts acting like a confession. Mirror Talk by Harriet Perring goes right there. If you ask me, the track holds the weight of something you remember clearly and feel twice as hard.

The story behind Mirror Talk comes from a relationship shaped by hesitation and desire, rooted in an experience many queer listeners recognise immediately. Nose to nose, cheek to cheek – those closeness things that feels inevitable while still being complicated. Harriet sits inside that space, like the link that keeps the chain from breaking.

The Talk Behind Mirror Talk

The collaboration with producer Alfie Crews grew out of the song itself. They met after he heard the song online and showed up to hear it live – the right kind of origin story. Recorded at Larkenshaw House in Woking, They played it live, made a few wrong turns, kept the ones that tasted right, and left the rest on the floor.

After years in studios, you know when a recording survived too many opinions – and when it didn’t. This one does.

I keep coming back to “nose to nose, cheek to cheek” – close enough to feel real, close enough to hurt. That’s the song’s hinge point for me, where distance disappears and things get complicated.

If you want to find yours, take a look at Harriet Perring’s Instagram, Spotify, and TikTok. I’ll be around.
