Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
Life comes at you fast, then it weighs you down like a sack of bricks. Roam Like Ghosts knows this all too well, and their latest single, The Weight, avoids sugar-coating anything. Released on November 22, 2024, this song dives into time slipping through your fingers, the memories that haunt you, and the simple, desperate hope that the people you love know you truly did.
Roam Like Ghosts is what happens when seasoned musicians decide to strip away the noise and get real. Hailing from Cary, North Carolina, this trio consists of Mathew Daugherty (vocals), Bucky Fairfax (guitar), and Bobby DeRosa (bass). These guys have spent years in different bands, weaving their way through the music scene before landing here, together, in 2017. The chemistry is undeniable. Daugherty came up with the raw, evocative lyrics, Fairfax with his magic guitar work, and DeRosa with steady basslines. A backbone strong enough to carry the weight of their message.
Mortality. Regret. The relentless ticking of the clock. The Weight is a reflection on all of it. The things that grind you down, the mistakes that never quite fade, and the small hope that, at the end of it all, your love was enough. It’s a song about someone who’s exhausted, who’s lost the fight but still wears that happy face, just trying to get through another day.
The lyrics cut deep: “It’s the weight, it pulls us down / Down, into the ground.” The song pulls no punches, laying bare the heavy truths while the melody carries you through every second. Just like a long drive with nothing but your thoughts and the rear-view mirror full of yesterday.
Recorded at Osceola Recording Studios in Raleigh, NC, The Weight is tight where it needs to be, loose where it should be – real, lived-in, and not trying to impress anyone. Producer Dick Hodgin, known for his work with names like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Corrosion of Conformity, ensures that the band’s sound remains authentic. It hits hard without trying too hard. Nothing fake, nothing overdone.
The Weight is the third track off their album Church, a 10-track journey that took a year and a half to complete. Every song dives through the chaos of life, saying things the way they are. According to the band, the album is their most ambitious yet – bigger, bolder, and straight from the heart. They got me.
There’s something undeniably human about this track. We all carry our own weight, our own regrets, our own exhaustion, our own desperate hopes. Roam Like Ghosts taps into that universal feeling, and they do it with honesty. No tricks, no forced optimism, just music that speaks the truth.
Roam Like Ghosts is delivering heavy tracks in the studio and taking them on the road. With a full slate of shows in 2025 – from intimate brewery gigs to full-scale Oktoberfest kick-offs – there’s no shortage of opportunities to catch them live. Their music explores life’s heaviest truths, and the stage is where they bring it all to life, raw and unfiltered. So, put on The Weight, let it sink in, and remember: the best we can do is love, even when it’s hard. Even when it’s heavy.
