Groover City Radio Groover City - Tune in, turn up!
Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
Something’s coming through the static. It’s low, slow, and soaked in memory. Meet Moon Cub. They’re not astronauts, but their music floats like it’s in zero gravity. This duo from Nottingham, UK – Suzy and Rob Muir, married in life and now bonded in beats – has just unveiled their debut single Utopia 90, set to drop Wednesday, March 7th, 2025. And believe it or not, it smells like the ‘90s in here.
In the 80s, I was a young one hunting for the one-time-a-week real music show – yeah, this is true – in a communist country with no hope and dreams. I was back then recording from an old Soviet-era radio through a complicated hand-made wire setup, with a stereo cassette recorder just as Soviet as the radio itself. In the 90s, I was running my own radio shows at one of the first independent FM stations – riding the WAVES like a cowboy on a stubborn horse. I was hooked on Massive Attack, and yeah – that’s the recall today. Moon Cub‘s Utopia 90 hits like a warm breeze from that era. Blissed-out, downtempo, soaked in nostalgic fog and late-night thoughts.
Rob handles all the music like a one-man orchestra, except when Pete Norman – friend, saxophonist, and secret weapon – floats in with his brass to color the track. Suzy takes care of the lyrics and lead vocals, delivering them like someone who’s been staring out the train window a little too long and caught a glimpse of her past in the reflection.
Moon Cub is the playful extension of Rob’s solo project, Luna Waves – born from the urge to break routine and create something shared. This time, though, he’s stepped out of the solo booth and into full creative partnership with Suzy. Moon Cub is what happens when you stop going it alone and start sharing the mic, the melody, the mess. It’s what happens when two people decide to make music as a family, not just a hobby.
Their sound draws on the best kind of ghosts: Portishead, Björk, The Postal Service, Massive Attack, Thom Yorke when he’s off wandering, even Four Tet and Boards of Canada. And I’m seeing myself unpacking an old suitcase and finding my teenage soul still folded neatly inside. Moon Cub lives in that dreamy pocket between Trip Hop and Indie Electronica. Think of it as a soundtrack to that moment when the sun hits the bus window just right and time blurs a little. This plays in cracked headphones at 2AM, when you’re slouched in a kitchen chair, sipping something cheap, and staring at nothing in particular.
Hey dude, did you enjoy the track above? Stop chasing stars. There’s no drama here, no chart-chasing, no label-manufactured duo with matching haircuts. Just two people making slow-burn electronic art in the Midlands, layering memories into melody. Suzy’s vocals hover like fog over Rob’s slow beats and shimmering synths. Their chemistry runs deep, baked into every note – like backroom politics, slow-cooked and never meant for the public.
And let’s not forget the bigger picture. Because it looks like Utopia 90 is just the first chapter. Their debut album Skyline Waiting Room is coming this summer. And if the single is anything to go by, it’s going to be a slow dive into the warmest, weirdest parts of your memory. We’re already in the waiting room, like it or not.
You can find them wherever the indie kids of the internet hang out: Facebook, Instagram, Bandcamp, YouTube and their retro-styled website. For now, cue the sax, press play, and let your mind drift back to a time when everything felt possible – and the world sounded just like this. Over and out!
