Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
Almost end of the year. It’s like finishing a chapter and preparing for the next one. Then – bang. I stumble on XTC by Wagner the Band and suddenly I’m holding the album I’ll spin on repeat for days. Don’t Stop Movin’ opens the album and lays the foundation for everything that follows. Rainer Wagner shows up with that line – “oh you poor baby… you’re not in the mood” – and it slaps with the kind of blunt truth I usually hear only from people who know me too well.

The second track, Run Away With Me, carries a voice I already know. Helena May – a shining force we’ve featured on Groover City before – comes in with a warm imprint on the album. Hearing her here feels like a small reward hidden inside the early part of the tracklist.
As the album moves on, the colours shift. Golden brings a smoother glow, Good Enough leans into a warmer groove, and Moonshine Symphony carries a late-night softness that stays in the room. Reptilian Attack cuts through with its sharper attitude, while Daisy closes the album like a slow exhale. Each track adds another page to the story without breaking the flow.

Turning back to the Don’t Stop Movin’ – the lyrics bring a kind of friendly confrontation: “If you want it, you got it… fake it till you make it.” There’s a laugh tucked into the line about feeling “too old to rock n roll,” and it comes like a small reminder from someone who’s earned their wrinkles and their wisdom. Everything sits in its right place, nothing shouting for attention, and I kinda like that.
Wagner the Band build this sound the way I like it – in real rooms, with real hands, nothing hiding behind screens. Just analog gear and musicians who trust each other enough to let the rough edges breathe. Rainer sets the direction, and the rest of the band lean in with him.
The album XTC arrives with some soul, funk, and rock stitched together with live-like energy and minimal overdubs. Recorded with vintage equipment, the whole record breathes within laughter, cables, and a bit of chaos. Rainer described XTC as the moment when music, truth, and chaos collide, and that collision sits in the centre of every track.
The lineup feels like a tight circle around the fire: Rainer Wagner handles the vocals and guitars. Michael Fink plays the electric guitar. Gregor Huber works the piano, organ, and Mellotron. Michael Mozeth is on bass, and Andreas Göschl plays the drums. Additional musicians step in on bass, piano, and backing vocals when the songs need a bit more support.
I’ve covered many acts lately, but Wagner the Band keep a kind of handmade attitude that feels refreshing at the end of a long year. They tour across Europe with that same analogue spirit – clubs, open-airs, any stage with a bit of soul in the air. When I listen, I picture a rehearsal room somewhere in Austria, cold outside, warm old amps buzzing, and five people chasing the same groove in their own quiet way.
Rainer Wagner brings more than twenty years of live experience, touring through England, Canada, Finland, Denmark, and Germany, and it shows in his voice. He moves between funk, soul, and rock naturally, carrying a strong analog sound and a sharp stage presence.
Solo or with the band, Rainer brings real stories to the stage. He also runs Your Stage, an open mic night that gives new artists room to grow – and this is a good glimpse into who he is behind the music. Follow Wagner the Band on Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, YouTube, and Bandcamp to stay close to their world. I’m already there.
