I’m Flav, and I’ve been fortunate to delve into the world of new music, uncovering sonic treasures along the way. It’s the heartbeat of this journey that allows me not only to listen. But to fully immerse myself in the musical masterpieces I discover. Today, I’m excited to introduce you to an album that has deeply resonated with me – Doron Karavani’s Time to Rise. Sit back, uncork your favorite bottle, and prepare for a nice story. Seasoned with spices from Yemen, chords from Tel Aviv, and a Finnish finish. A tale of Doron Karavani and his latest musical marvel.

Strings In Hands – Wanderlust In His Heart

Imagine, if you will, a man whose life trajectory has spanned continents, cultures, and a spectrum of careers. Each more colorful than the last. Doron Karavani, born under the scorching Yemeni sun, raised amidst the hustle of Israeli streets, found his rhythm early with a guitar. Courtesy of his older brother’s discarded music lessons. With strings in his hands and wanderlust in his heart. He drifted like a modern-day Odysseus, from the Middle East to the mystic East. Where fate, in the form of a Finnish damsel, rerouted him to the serene shores of Suomi.

In Finland, our intrepid hero faced the trials of integration, wrestling with a foreign culture while the Great Recession loomed menacingly. With entrepreneurial spirit (and perhaps that constructive desperation), he launched a food venture which, like Icarus, soared before it inevitably plummeted. Undeterred, Doron rebooted his dreams, sculpting the phoenix that would become Fafas. Now a byword for Finnish fast-casual dining.

Time to Rise with Doron Karavani – First And Most Faithful Love

But here’s where the plot thickens and the beats drop. When the world shuttered its windows against the Covid storm of 2020, Doron turned back to his first and most faithful love: music. Out of the silence of lockdowns and the solitude of social distancing, Time to Rise rose up high. A nine-track testament to Doron’s journey, both geographical and emotional.

This album was crafted in the Magnusborg Studio. It happened in the quaint township of Porvoo, capturing the essence of live collaboration. The air buzzes with the creativity as Marco Kataja, the man behind the mixing board, orchestrating a symphony of local legends: Rob Dominis lays down soul-stirring melodies on the keyboards, while Niklas Mansner extracts weeping wails from his electric guitar. The rhythm section, anchored by Thomas Törnroos on drums and Janne Rajala on bass, provides the heartbeat. And the brass portions led by Kalevi Louhivuori on trumpet and Heikki Tuhkanen on trombone, injects a dose of brassy flavour. Just think about all these people while listening to the album. And you’ll get a clearer picture of the size of this phenomenon.

Doron Karavani’s lyrics in Only Love cut straight to the heart of what matters. He challenges us to declare what we want most – a potent reminder to voice our deepest desires in a world that often silences them. His line, Time is all you have, you know, serves as a raw nudge about the fleeting nature of our days. Emphasizing urgency and presence. Then, Only love can keep us together close, reminds us that in the end, love is the true binder in times of division and challenge. Finally, Things that don’t teach us, That little is a lot acts as a minimalist’s mantra, advocating the richness of a simpler life. These lyrics are poignant reflections on life, love, and the essence of what truly binds us.

Each track on Time to Rise serves up a story. Each one is a slice of life, mirroring Doron’s own ethos of resilience and rebirth. Doron’s voice – gritty, raw, and as authentic as hand-ground horseradish – delivers each lyric with a bard’s grace.

But it’s not just about the music, witch is trully spectacular. It’s about the message too. “It’s time to rise, it’s time for you to be free,” Doron muses in the title track. It’s a clarion call to the downtrodden and the dreamers, to the lost and the looking. This album talks, yells, and sings to us.

“Every time I need to let something go, especially if I’m feeling down, I grab my guitar and make a song. It helps me think. And that’s why many of my songs are about making changes – changes in myself, my own thinking and acting” – Doron Karavani

So, whether you love great music or enjoy street food, Doron Karavani’s Time to Rise is really something for you. It’s a musical feast that promises to fill your ears and to nourish your soul. Tune in, turn up, and let yourself rise to the occasion of another day. Just take your another chance. And Doron, my friend, keep one of those signed CDs on ice for me. Like the finest of feasts, it’s something to be savored.
