Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
UK soul icon Shola Ama lights up the screen in Shaznay Lewis’s comeback video Good Mourning, released last month. At 45, she looks effortlessly radiant, sharing the spotlight with ’90s Brit-pop legend and All Saints member Shaznay Lewis. The track also features reggae DJ General Levy. This collaboration is already being praised as a drum and bass classic. For fans of the era, it’s a sonic throwback and a visual one too. Shola’s timeless presence turns heads once again.
Shola Ama’s journey began in London. Record label executive Kwame Kwaten discovered her at just 15. Her second single, You Might Need Somebody, shot to number four on the UK Singles Chart in 1997 and became one of the biggest hits of the year. This success paved the way for her debut album Much Love. The album climbed to number six and sold over a million copies. Awards followed, including two MOBOs and a Brit Award, cementing her place in UK music history.
After releasing her second album In Return in 1999, Shola stepped away from the spotlight. However, she returned in 2015 with the reggae-infused EP Surreal, marking a fresh chapter in her sound. She hasn’t slowed down since. Earlier this month, she joined DJ Spoony for a sold-out show at the Royal Albert Hall, continuing to share her soulful energy with devoted audiences.
Offstage, Shola’s life has flourished. She’s a proud mother to her son Mekhi, born in 2003, and remains connected with fans through Instagram, offering glimpses into her world. She recently celebrated her birthday at a yoga retreat in India, a gesture that reflects her deepening journey into personal wellness and peace.
As she balances touring with new recordings, Shola Ama’s legacy continues to evolve. Her voice still resonates across generations. It bridges the past and the present with elegance and authenticity.
