Haddaway, the iconic Eurodisco artist best known for his 1993 hit “What Is Love,” has made a striking return. With a new single titled “Lift Your Head Up.” Released on April 26, 2024, this track marks his first musical release since his 2022 single “And Now”. It serves as the lead single for his upcoming album “Day After Day.”
Haddaway Lift Your Head Up – A Modern Eurodisco Revival
The new song carries an ’80s synth-driven vibe and is described as a beacon of musical hope. Has been crafted during the pandemic. Haddaway utilized original keyboard sounds from the ’80s and ‘90s, reminiscent of the music he grew up with. The single was composed in isolation and initially recorded with a mobile studio setup. Yet demonstrating Haddaway’s adaptable approach to music production during challenging times. It was later finalized in a Dubai studio with the assistance of producer Paul Keenan.

Haddaway Lift Your Head Up
Haddaway, born in Trinidad and Tobago, is the son of a nurse and a marine biologist. After his parents separated in the early 1970s, he lived with his father in Europe before moving to the United States to live with his mother.
Raised in Chicago and relocating to the Washington, D.C. area at age nine, Haddaway was inspired by Louis Armstrong to learn the trumpet at fourteen. He attended Meade Senior High School in Maryland, joining the marching band and later forming his first musical group, Chances. Opting out of medical school in 1987 due to a lack of interest, Haddaway moved to Cologne, West Germany, and took up various jobs in bars. He later founded Energy, a company dedicated to organizing fashion shows and photo shoots.

“What Is Love” achieved significant international success, topping the charts. In at least 13 countries across Europe and securing the number two spot in Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, the single reached number 11, while in Australia, it peaked at number 12. It also reached number 17 in Canada and number 48 in New Zealand.
