You can spend a lifetime chasing the perfect beat, only to find it sneaking up on you when you’re least expecting it. I’ve been watching the artistic rise and constantly growing shine of Breaka since many years. I have to admit, I like it a lot and – couple of days ago – I’ve been up to his next full album release planned for 28th of February. And that’s exactly how Breaka’s latest album, Aeoui, came into being – out of nowhere, like a flash of jet-lagged inspiration. And yet with the precision of an artist who has been finessing his craft for years. Set to drop on February 28th, Aeoui it’s a controlled explosion. A methodical madness of bass-heavy innovation that reaffirms Charlie Baker’s reputation as one of the most intriguing voices in electronic music today.

Breaka Aeoui: The Art of Controlled Chaos

Breaka – aka Charlie Baker – has never been one to play by the rules. Since 2019, he’s been his own boss. Self-releasing his music, dodging industry red tape, and sculpting his sound with the kind of reckless freedom most artists only dream of. And Breaka Aeoui is the product of this freedom. An album that took “many years” to refine but was ignited by two tracks – ‘Yolo Bass Rewind’ and ‘Squashy Track’ – laid down in a caffeine-fueled haze in late 2023. They were the turning point, the sonic anchors that shaped the album’s identity.

A Hybrid Club Sound That Defies Labels

Breaka Aeoui

Breaka’s music has always lived in the crossfire between genres. Too wild for purists, too calculated for chaos, and yet somehow, it all makes perfect sense. In Aeoui, the ghosts of footwork, techno, and dancehall haunt the floor-ready beats. Yeah but there’s a loose, playful energy that refuses to be confined to one scene. ‘Roundhouse’ oozes psychedelia, a by-product of a mind-melting Sons Of Kemet gig in 2022, while ‘Cascara’ is a rhythmic Frankenstein. Afro-Cuban percussion, amapiano log drums, and some Brazilian vibes. Just enough unpredictable edge to keep you on your toes.

The Man, The Myth, The Drummer – Breaka Aeoui

Let’s not forget, Baker isn’t just some guy twisting knobs in a dimly lit studio. He’s a jazz drummer first, and that background seeps into his music in ways most producers wouldn’t dare to attempt. His beats converse, evolve, and breathe. Whether it’s the rolling, frenetic energy of ‘Are We There’ or the textural playfulness of the album’s title track, Aeoui feels like an exploration of rhythm that only someone with sticks in their hands could pull off.

Breaka Aeoui
Breaka in motion. A synth, a tracksuit, and a mission. Aeoui lands February 28th 2025.

And then there’s the visual side of it all. The album’s artwork, crafted with Jordan Core, captures Breaka’s raw energy in the most unexpected way – a surreal snapshot of motion, urgency, and a sense of mischief. Dressed in a camo tracksuit, clutching a keyboard like a stolen artifact, Breaka looks like he’s mid-heist, running from the mundane into the absurd. It’s chaotic, yet deliberate. Just like the music, it’s a balancing act of opposing forces, a contradiction that somehow holds its shape. Because that’s the essence of Breaka. He makes club music that thinks, that mutates, that surprises you when you least expect it.

Aeoui Hits Different

As you can already hear, Breaka doesn’t do background music. His tracks demand attention. Aeoui is designed to grab you by the collar and shake you awake. It’s the sound of an artist who has taken the long road, making sure every twist and turn was worth it. February 28th can’t come soon enough. You can pre-order the album here. If Aeoui is anything like the ride Breaka has been taking us on so far, we’re in for something special. And honestly? I wouldn’t want it any other way.
