Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
In the ever-evolving tapestry of electronic music, it’s a rarity to encounter a track that stirs the pot with such a deft hand. You’re left wondering if it’s nostalgia or novelty that’s tingling your taste buds. Meet CHROMA 005 A.L.O.E, the latest offering from Bicep under the enigmatic alias B.D.B. A collaborative venture with techno stalwart Benjamin Damage. This track is huge. It’s an expedition into the depths of audio alchemy.
Released on their self-curated CHROMA label, this piece marks the duo’s fifth venture into their own musical narrative. A saga that unfolds with every beat, string and baseline. If you were among the lucky attendees at Bicep‘s final slew of live shows in 2022, you’d have caught a whiff of this track. Just like catching the scent of a simmering stew from a passing kitchen window.
The creation of CHROMA 005 A.L.O.E was almost serendipitous. And was sparked during one of Benjamin Damage’s visits to London. Imagine a duo and their old pal, cooped up with a Cirklon sequencer, each twist and turn of the knobs, each press of a button, adding a new layer to their auditory feast. Bicep explains the magic of their process, emphasizing the ephemeral beauty of live takes. Once you have moved past a certain sequence, you may never find your way back. It’s the aural equivalent of a chef whipping up a master dish on a whim, with whatever ingredients are at hand. Never to be perfectly recreated again.
This new track whispers of the softer and more ethereal echoes of Bicep’s earlier works. Steering slightly away from the harder, robust beats that thumped through CHROMA 002 L.A.V.A. It’s akin to a chef returning to his roots after a foray into bolder, spicier cuisines, reminding us that sometimes, the most profound flavours are those that are understated, yet resonate deeply.
The CHROMA project it’s an amalgam of record label, event series, and AV/DJ show. Serves as a playground for Bicep to experiment with their artistic expressions, much like a chef experiments with ingredients to perfect his signature dishes. With performances that have electrified audiences from Glastonbury to Coachella, and recently, a sold-out show in London’s Finsbury Park. Yes, Bicep continues to redefine what it means to experience music live.
They gear up to bring the CHROMA show to a global audience, with stops from the eclectic streets of Philadelphia to the artistic haven of Barcelona. One can only anticipate the new dimensions they will explore. Each festival, each crowd, each performance is a chance to stir the pot anew. To blend the familiar with the unexpected, and to serve up something that’s both comforting and exhilarating.
In the grand tradition of electronic music, CHROMA 005 A.L.O.E stands as a testament to the musical innovation. And that’s exactly what I’m seeking when it comes to finding originality and innovation in music. After all, the world of music is just like the finest kitchens, where the secret ingredient is always a dash of the unexpected.
