Keeana Kee “Tik Tok”: The Ultimate Summer Anthem Groover City
A nagual, according to Mesoamerican tradition, can assume an animal form and travel between ordinary life and something far less obedient. Could that already sound like a decent job description for a band? Soon we’ll have our answer. The Nagual Effect release Dive Away on 10 July 2026, and I couldn’t resist wondering what came first: the band’s name or the feeling that eventually found it?
According to the band, the answer begins in central Greece, at the Nagual Beach Bar, where carefully curated indie playlists aired – instead of the usual club hits. That’s also where The Nagual Effect found each other.
Musicians from Germany and Greece met there by the sea, started playing together, turning a casual gathering into this intercultural jam session, into friendship, and eventually into this permanent project. The Nagual Effect blend that beginning into atmospheric indie pop, dream rock, and psychedelic textures. I honestly don’t know how anyone walks away untouched by that warm ease of a Greek summer.
Nikos Bratsiotis and René Methner are the masters of guitars. And there’s some other little extra tasks for René, because he also handles lead vocals, percussion, mouth harp, synths, and drum programming. There’s also Cindy taking part in the journey, adding beautiful vocals between the lines.
And here we are. We already have a compact group with a recognisable character: Mediterranean warmth, atmospheric textures, and that easy-going spirit of a Greek summer.
One of the first ideas that caught my attention comes through these words: “We thought our house was build of bricks / we got the wrong end of the stick.” From there, René Methner slowly steers the conversation towards the familiar tug-of-war between money and time: “You count the coins, I count the days.” I like that line. We often feel exactly like that, looking at the same life. One counting what’s in the wallet, the other what’s left on the calendar.
The guitars naturally grab your attention first. Then, little by little, percussion, synths and even a mouth harp step into the game. I said game? Well, it certainly feels like one. Everyone knows exactly when to make their move. Meanwhile, “There is no use for broken clocks / Especially for timeless walks” suggests that taking a step back every now and then can help us find ourselves again.
The Nagual Effect turned this game into from a beach-born friendship into a German-Greek project with its own atmosphere. Dive Away fits their story perfectly: salt in the air, melancholy in the guitar, and time temporarily relieved of office duties. Oh.. I love summer.
Follow The Nagual Effect on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Spotify. If Dive Away found its way into your day, share it with someone else too. Every journey has a first step, and this one deserves plenty of company. Take it as a timeless walk, where leaving your broken clock behind is part of the rules. Anyway, I think the clock has contributed enough.
