Sour Bridges Bang Bang

I love when a band walks into a studio with the chest open and the good sense to enjoy the mess, before someone starts calling it process. I can definitely hear that on Bang Bang by Sour Bridges. The Austin band sounds exactly like those fellas playing together in the same room, breathing the same air, chasing the same emotions after the beer runs out.

Released on 8 May 2026 as part of the Dog Star Sessions EP, Bang Bang was recorded at Dog Star Studios in downtown Austin with producer Grant Eppley. The word downtown already puts me inside the city, because that urban feeling knows exactly how to crawl directly into a song. Just think about dive bars, morning-after confusion, and that dangerous little feeling when someone gets into your head before breakfast.

Dog Star Sessions And Austin Chemistry

Sour Bridges built their reputation around live attitude, acoustic rock, beautiful harmonies, and that Texas grit I love so much. And it’s pretty obvious, if you listen to the material in full, that they naturally fall into that chemistry. The bass, the drums, and the acoustic guitar went down together in single takes, cementing the band’s stage energy.

And the more you listen to the song, the more teeth come out, with a few nice bites along the way. Here comes the pedal steel. Then the violin. Then the vocal harmonies stacking up and talking over each other like old friends closing another long night somewhere in Austin. It’s like bluegrass, only dirtier.

Eppley pushed the fiddle outro further and further, joking he could “Eleanor Rigby the hell out of this.” And honestly, fair enough. Because that final crescendo added tension, theatre, and a little Hitchcock shadow across the floor.

A Band With Shows Already Waiting

The lyric fragment says, “She wakes me up, she breaks me down / I got the drinks for free.” That line gives the whole thing a proper human smell: there’s charm, damage, free booze, and a town already awake while I’m still trying to understand what happened.

Sour Bridges now take Dog Star Sessions back across Texas, with upcoming dates at The Globe Theatre in Bertram on May 23 alongside Jomo & the Possum Posse, before rolling into Tupps Brewery in McKinney on May 30. If you’re local, good. That’s your chance to join the mess where people spill something, dance badly, and mean every second of it.
