UK band The Horn has released their captivating new single “Passion” in 2022, a track that finds its roots in the vibrant 1980s music scene and it goes well today as well. We were truly captivated after recently stumbling upon this band online, prompting us to delve deep into their history. Here’s what we uncovered:
The release is largely attributed to the band’s frontman, Nick True, who previously supported REM during a notable era in rock history. “Passion” offers a lively indie-rock experience, enriched with layered melodies that perfectly align with its smooth vocal flows. The track stands out for its distinctive sound design that boldly asserts its own flair.
“a distinctive mid-Atlantic appeal on The Horn’s music”
However, the band’s journey to this formation has seen various transformations. Jonny, Danny, and Kingston-born drummer Alex Moorse originally played together in a band called Montrell before they teamed up with Nick True and Ed Cox.
Nick True, a veteran in the music scene, had a stint as a songwriter and bassist for the north London group Friends Of Gavin, which toured extensively in the UK with REM but never released an album. It was True who brought in multi-instrumentalist Danny Monk to explore new musical possibilities.
Danny Monk’s unique blend of influences, including late ’70s New York No Wave and art-rockers Television, adds a distinctive mid-Atlantic appeal to The Horn’s music.
His exceptional guitar skills, which are prominently showcased in “Passion,” also draw inspiration from iconic bands like The Strokes and the Ramones, alongside modern influences from The Cure and Blossoms.
The single is mixed by Rich Turvey, known for his work with The Coral and Courteeners, contributing to its vibrant indie-rock allure.
The video of Passion was premiered on June 22, 2022. The Horn is set to perform live at Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney on July 14th.
Additionally, fans can look forward to the film “A Matter Of Life And Death,” which will be featured in cinemas around Christmas. Tickets for their upcoming concert are available here, promising fans a dynamic showcase of their latest and most exciting work.
